What's CU-Ota Tech Expo About?

The CU-Ota Tech Expo is a joint effort of Covenant University and Olota Foundation for Economic and Dvelopment Initiative (Olota-FECODEIN). The expo is designed to profile emerging transformational technologies and their expected impact on future of work, businesses and the community we live in.

The CU-Ota Tech Expo is designed to profile emerging transformational technologies and their expected impact on your life, your work, the business you do and the community you live in.

Speakers at the event will highlight what the coming changes are and the steps and strategies that individuals and companies need to take to remain relevant in in the face of fast-paced shifts driven by technology.

Prof. AAA Atayero

Vice Chancellor, Covenant University

Engineer (Prof.) Atayero has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Radio Engineering and a Master of Science Degree in Satellite Communication Systems in 1992 and 1994 respectively. He earned his PhD from the Moscow State Technical University of Civil Aviation (MSTUCA) in 2000. 

A professor of communication engineering, Atayero is a Fellow of the Science Association of Nigeria (FSAN), Chartered Institute of Administration (FCIA); Chartered Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC); as well as a Senior Research Fellow of the International Association of Research Scholars and Administrators. Atayero is a COREN Registered Engineer and member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and other professional bodies.

Amoo_Adefola

Squadron Leader Fola Amoo

CEO, GridCode

Squadron Leader Adefola Amoo Adefolajuwon Amoo retired from the Nigerian Air Force in 2010 after 17 years in Service. He currently holds a global patent for a digital addressing system that solves a problem common to 75% of the world. 

He is an adept technology systems integrator and project manager. He played a key role in the national implementation of the IMO’s International Ship and Port Facility Code as well as consulted for the Abuja MoU on Port State Control. He coordinated the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of a leading Security Command Control Systems in Nigeria based on the TETRA Technology. 

His work on a public-key communication encryption system for the Nigerian Air Force earned him a nomination for a National Award at the age of 29. Adefola has remained active both in the Public and Private sectors. He has also led several projects on digital forensics including, biometric forensics for elections, cult renunciation, as well as digital forensics as part of criminal investigations. 

Adefola Amoo is currently an entrepreneur who owns his own businesses. He is also a public speaker on technology and recently returned from Kigali Rwanda where he was invited to speak at the Fintech Friday on “Data Localisation”. The product of Amoo’s global patent is currently being considered for national adoption on directives of the Presidency.

Sam Immanuel

CEO, Semicolon

Sam Leads the Semicolon team to deliver on our promise of enabling inclusive and profitable growth through technology and innovation.

Sam started his career as a Consultant and Software Engineer with Accenture in London focused on financial services customers like Barclays Bank and UBS Warburg. He later worked Man Investments (the largest listed hedge fund at the time) building trading platforms and supporting quarterly launch of new investment products looking to raise between $400M – $500M.

Following the financial crisis of 2008, he joined IBM and led the Channel Business for Industry Solutions across Central, East and West Africa (CEWA). In this role, he worked with clients on digital transformation projects across Oil & Gas, Utilities, Financial Services, Telecommunications and Public Sector.

He later joined SAP to establish the SAP Telecoms business in West Africa with a key focus on digital services that enabled Telecoms clients to partner with other industries mainly financial services and utility companies. The focus of these engagements involved partnership between Telecoms providers and Utility Companies around metering, billing and asset management using SAP capabilities.

More recently, he worked with Teradata in the US helping clients implement and adopt advanced analytics capabilities within broader digital transformation agendas. Notable projects in this role include autonomous driving with a large car manufacturer in the Detroit area and transforming supply chain operations from reactive to proactive for Dow Chemical.

He co-founded The Innovation Village a co-working space for techpreneurs in Yaba and is focused on how to tech-enable all industries to enable scale and growth that drives economic development.

Aniedi Udo-Obong

Aniedi is an Electrical/Electronics Engineering with Software Development and Networking skills. He is an information technology professional with over 12 years practical experience working with Nigerian startups spanning human resources, media, finance, education, and logistics. He is also an experienced Program Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the internet industry.

Aniedi currently manages Software Developer Community relationships for Google across West, East and Southern Africa, reaching over 100,000 developers in 30 countries through 250 city- and university-based groups.

James Omitiran

Partner Engineering Manager, Andela

James Omitiran is a Partner Engineering Manager at Andela, a company that builds high-performing engineering teams by investing in Africa’s most talented software developers. James is responsible for leading the engineering talents that Andela provides to her partners.

 

Before Andela, James’ professional career includes a long stint as Head Of Innovation and Software Engineer at High Tech Synergy, a software firm that specializes in providing supply chain management solutions, market penetration and cash automation management for a cross-section of businesses in Nigeria, Africa and Europe. He believes that with technology, we can build a better future by plugging the visible gaps that prevent us from moving forward as a nation. James also consults for tech start-ups, designing recruitment strategies, so that they can build strong software development teams, and establish a proper process for building software development.

 

James is a graduate of Yaba College Of Technology, where he studied computer science and is a certified project manager and scrum master. He has over 11 years of software engineering experience under his belt and has project managed multi-million dollar projects for major players in the telecommunication space in Nigeria and West Africa.

 

He likes to read, study human psychology and history, and learn new things in technology.

Odunayo Eweniyi

Odunayo Eweniyi is the co-founder & Chief Operations Officer, PiggyVest. She previously cofounded pushcv.com, one of the largest job sites in Africa with the largest database of prescreened candidates. She has 5 years’ experience in Business Analysis and Operations and is a First-Class graduate of Computer Engineering, Covenant University, Nigeria.

She was named one of Forbes Africa 30 under 30 Technology in 2019 and one of 30 Quartz Africa Innovators 2019. She sits on the advisory board of TrainFuture, an Education Technology company based in Switzerland, as well as the Gender Lens Acceleration Best Practices Initiative, a collaborative effort of Village Capital, US and the International Finance Corporation (IFC)’s Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (WeFi). In 2019, she was named SME Entrepreneur of the Year West Africa by The Asian Banker’s Wealth and Society and she is the youngest Nigerian on Forbes Africa list of 20 New Wealth Creators in Africa 2019.

She was also one of the featured speakers at the World Bank-IMF Annual Meeting in 2019.

Her 2nd Book, ‘WE HAVE TO BELONG – Why the Poor Majority of my Rich Country cannot wait anymore’ was also launched at Harvard University in 2017. She also studied Strategic Management at Executive Level at Cambridge University’s Judge Business School, has a Certificate in Youth Inclusive Financial Services from University of New Hampshire, holds a Certificate in Media Enterprise from the School of Media and Communication, Pan Atlantic University. She studied Digital Marketing Strategy at the UK Institute of Digital Marketing and received a 2nd Class UPPER Bachelors’ degree in Civil Law from the University of Jos.

Fola Akinmolayan

C.E.O, Digital Passion limited

A self-proclaimed tech evangelist, who has been in the IT and core tech for almost twenty years. He is the founder and C.E.O of Digital Passion limited, a company into media, it started with exclusively tech content for radio with the Digital passion show that was on air for close to four years and they are in the process of making their Television debut soon.  

Fola ventured into the world of UAVS about 5 years ago with a US PART 107 UAS  certification in view, he builds and flies several FPV crafts and other UAVs.

TEMITAYO FADOJUTIMI

Software Engineer at Andela

Temitayo Fadojutimi is a Software Engineer at Andela. He joined the Andela Team in 2017, and has contributed in the development unit to the impact the company has been making in providing technology solutions for many clients in Africa and beyond.

Temitayo is a Techpreneur and Founder, and prior to Andela, he had founded MultiServer Network to help businesses integrate technology into their business in 2011, Instutory, a directory of education and education-related businesses in Nigeria and MSN Bus Ticketing System to help travelers book their bus tickets from their mobile app or desktop without the stress of going to the terminal. He also started MSN Academy a Software Development training institution with the aim of making software development training affordable to Nigerian youths and help address the problem of unemployment.

Temitayo is currently the Chairman of KidsCode Africa, a not for profit organization focused on providing free computer education to kids between the ages of 5-18 years in undeveloped communities. He is also the Founder of Litireso, an online publishing and reading platform for African authors and global readers.

If he’s not writing programming codes or teaching people Software Development, Temitayo can be seen making some delicious meals in the kitchen.

Usifo is a skilled digital media producer, social media strategist, manager and trainer, with over a decade of experience in digital media, community/commercial radio development, reality TV projects and public relations. He is a detailed digital producer with an eye for great stories and content production. A digital enthusiast with a passion for positive results, speaks.

An alumnus of the London School of Journalism in Internet and Digital Journalism, Usifo currently serves as Senior Broadcast Journalist with the BBC with the responsibility to represent the service to share regional knowledge across BBC outlets. In this role, he has been executed a number of transformational projects. He develops and executes strategies for online and digital media platforms, monitors and analyses growth and audience behaviours, and oversees the maximizing of impact from content delivery,

His experience spans a number of media organisations, production houses, corporate brands and NGOs, which has helped him to build his professionalism and diversity. He is an open-minded person with a passion for media as a development tool, for bringing positive change and impact to my society and by extension the world at large.

Joel ‘Kachi Benson

CEO, VR360 Stories

JOEL ‘KACHI BENSON is passionate about stories.

He found a camcorder sometime in 2008, and made his first documentary in 2009. His documentaries have played at various festivals and venues including Sheffield Docfest, Berlin International Film Festival, HotDocs International Film Festival, and the British Film Institute.

In May 2018, Joel produced Nigeria’s first Virtual Reality documentary- “In Bakassi”, which premiered at the Cairo International Film Festival; and in September 2019 his second VR documentary, Daughters of Chibok, premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and went on to win the award for Best Immersive Story, making Joel Kachi Benson the first African to win the prestigious Venice Lion in this category. Daughters of Chibok has since played at film festivals all over the world, and is also listed on the Forbes list of Top 50 XR Experiences of 2019.

In December 2019, Kachi Benson was named as one of New Africa Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential Africans of 2019, for his work, using Virtual Reality for Social Impact storytelling.

He lives and works in Nigeria where he manages a video production studio, and teaches filmmaking to younger creatives.

Joshua Agboola

CEO/Chief Coder Joshfortech

Joshua Agboola is a young programmer, future skills activist, and speaker on technology topics. He is the CEO/Chief Coder at Joshfortech a firm that seeks to provide web and app solutions to individuals and companies. He is also the trainer for a new YouTube channel called Joshfortech, where he teaches kids and adults technology and programming concepts in an easy and fun to learn way.

Joshua started coding at the age of 6. He has proficiency in the use of Scratch, Html5, CSS3, Javascript, Jquery, Bootstrap, Java, C++, C#, PHP, Laravel and Unity. He also works with Lego Mindstorm, the programming of Arduino boards and the automation of devices using C++. He has built a number of games, a healthcare app and a few websites drawing from his knowledge.

Joshua broke a record by becoming the youngest speaker to present a talk at the ICTEL Expo of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry in July, 2019. He had earlier presented at Techpoint Inspired in June 2019 alongside top tech personalities like Funke Opeke of Mainone, Bosun Tijani of CCHub and Seni Sulyman of Andela. In December 2019, he spoke at “The Workplan Tech Summit” of Rise Networks in Lagos.

He has had several media features in print and electronic media including BBC, Channels, TVC, AIT, NTA, Businessday, Vanguard, The Nation, LindaIkeji TV and Nairaland. He has also been featured in the MTN mPulse Planet magazine alongside other inspiring Nigerian youngsters including Silas Adekunle the CEO of Reach Robotics, makers of Mekamon gaming robots.

Aside from tech, Joshua loves mathematics and the playing of the piano. His keyboard skill has led to a number of stage presentations that have been aired on television and some YouTube channels.

Joshua sees possibilities in using technology to solve Africa’s many pressing challenges and is passionate about getting young people to learn tech skills early.

Tayo Odejimi

Tayo is a Construction Management Advisor and Project Manager with over 20 years in the construction software industry, spent facilitating Computer-Aided Design, creating Visualization and Building Information Modeling tools, managing building construction and deploying technology solutions for a range of organizations. He is a technology entrepreneur and the producer of “Intelligent Constructions” podcasts.

He is also Product Sales Expert with Autodesk (ALLCAD LTD) – the leaders in construction industry software and platforms and makers of AutoCAD, REVIT, the entire AEC Collection, and BIM 360.

He has worked as Special Assistant and Technical Consultant to Government in the Lagos Ministry of Housing and Lagos State Infrastructure Monitoring and Regulatory Agency.

Tayo is a graduate of Computer science/technology and an alumnus of the Pan Atlantic University’s School of Media and Communication in Digital Media.

Ronald Ekong

3D Printing Expert

Ronald is a 3D Modeling Expert, VFX artist and Project Designer. He studied Civil Engineering at Cardiff University in Wales, UK.

He is an Executive Director at AllRock Limited which is a project management company that also develops alternative materials for construction. He is also in the management of Prag Technologies.

 

Ronald does post production of cinematic arts as a vfx artist under the brand name BlackPearl Productions. He loves to teach young people and has been involved in youth digital skills empowerment as a facilitator in 3D modelling and game design with Wifi Combat. He has also been a Tech lead for MTN’s M’Pulse programme.

 

He is also a member of the Facebook CAPP program which involves the monetization of African content on social media platforms.

Dr. Stephen Oluwatobi

Chair, LOC

Dr. Oluwatobi is a teacher of and researcher into Economics, Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Covenant University. He is the curator of Hebron Startup Lab and the Edustart Project. Oluwatobi is passionate about Startups and their development. His focus is on building Startups and he loves to create them and add value to them.

He is the founder of Awesome Impact, a Publishing Company and has written two books to help improve human capacity and contribution in organizations and economies.

Bayo Agboola

Co-Chair, LOC

Bayo Agboola is a serial entrepreneur by genotype and an engineer by blood group. He started his adventure in the tech world over a decade ago with Cisco Networking and VSAT deployments and has since then been involved with technology projects across a broad spectrum encompassing hardware and software.

He has also co-founded a couple of tech ventures. Bayo is passionate about empowering people, especially youth with tech skills which he says is their passport to the future. He sees technology as a key tool to leapfrog Africa out of its current challenges.
